COPENHAGEN!!!

Copenhagen!! It was a long journey over here but I’ve finally made it.

So, Sunday night I flew out of Boston and arrived about 5 hours later in rainy windy Iceland! It was very early in the morning there (6 or 7am) and I felt like we were in a cloud. Anyway, our leader Orri, arrived a few min later on the flight from Toronto. We rented a car and drove into downtown Reykjavik. He dropped us of at some little breakfast café and we were able to grab a bite to eat. I think I quite possibly had the best Omelet in my life!! (sorry mom)

Orri dropped off the main luggage that most people were not planning to bring to Copenhagen, however we failed to realize that because we bought our tickets to Copenhagen with a stopover in Iceland, that our luggage would not stop over in Iceland but rather be sent to Copenhagen. Sooooo, my luggage didn’t make it to the storage place in Iceland. Oh well… for now….

Our leader picked us up again and took us to the Blue Lagoon. This place is like a spa. They built a large complex over geysers and take advantage of the hot water. They call it the Blue Lagoon because the minerals that come out tint the water an incredible shade of baby blue. After hitting up the hot water pool, waterfall, and steam rooms, it was time we needed to get back to the airport. Our flight left from Iceland to Copenhagen around 1:15pm. (about 9am Michigan time) So, I pretty much just pulled an all-nighter and was starting to feel a little tired.

Obviously, I tried very hard to fall asleep on the plane, but no luck. We arrived in Copenhagen 3 hours later and it was 8pm (local time) when we arrived there. By now I have just given up trying to keep up with the time differences because all I knew is that I was tired as hell! Then, of course, it would have to be me that gets randomly stopped and hassled by airport security while my group has no idea and keeps walking through the airport. They ask for my passport, where I am going, what I am doing there, what is in my luggage, etc. Once they figure out that I am not a terrorist, they let me go so that I may wander around in panic looking for my group. I was like, DAMN!!!!! 5 MIN IN COPENHAGEN AND IM ALREADY LOST!!!! Hahaha, after the initial panic, I saw my group waiting at a ticket station across the airport getting Metro tickets and I quickly ran up to meet them.

So we took the metro from the airport to, what I thought was, a close stop to the hostel we are staying at. I was wrong. It was the longest 3-mile walk of my life! Don’t forget, all of my luggage ended up going to Copenhagen, not just the carry on that I thought I had to worry about. I carried about 100lbs of luggage through cobblestone streets ready for my hands to fall off… but I shouldn’t complain too much because one of the girls in my group screamed and we looked back to see bird shit all over her head. After an uncontrollable fit of hysteria, I was able to regain composure. That pretty much made my night, so I stopped complaining.

Once we arrived to our Hostel, I was pretty much SHOCKED at how amazingly nice it is. It is much nicer than most of the hotels I’ve stayed in. There are Plasmas in the lounge, coffee shop/bar, restaurant, and VERY nice bedroom amenities.

We went out to eat to celebrate Copenhagen and the birthday of one of the girls on the trip. It was this little pub restaurant where I got some type of casserole served over rice. It had Bacon, sausage, carrots, sprouts, potatoes, and a whole bunch of things mixed in the gravy. It was a good meal and the Beer was fantastic, but we all had a pretty hard time paying. Seeing as I currently have 3 currencies in my wallet, it took everyone a while to “split the bill.” We eventually figured it out, and I came back to crash at the Hostel.

I woke up this morning around 9am (which I figure is about 3am Michigan time). Its currently about 11am that I am writing this, and figure the majority of everyone is still probably sleeping. But I already went for a nice little walk through some of the streets. Got a little lost, found my way back here, and am probably going to just hang out a for a little while before we meet to go on a boat tour around 12. I will probably be able to post some pictures later, so check back tonight =)

So far everything is just amazing! I can’t wait to start filming our documentary. It should be fun. Not exactly sure what my group has decided to film yet… but we will get something together soon and start planning that out.

  2. Its incredible. I love the public bike system. You just deposit 20 kroner and you can use the bike as long as you want. Then you just bring back the bike and get your 20 kr. Its pretty cool. a great way to get around town.
